چکیده

Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) structures are nonperiodic structures that show unique electromagnetic features, such as frequency band gap for surface waves and in-phase reflection coefficient for incident plane waves, which makes them desirable for low-profile antenna designs. A very innovative topic for antenna scientists and engineers are the applications of EBG structures in antenna designs. In this paper we have initially reviewed the fundamentals of these structures and then demonstrating recent advances in this field by using several representative microwave antenna examples. It has been concluded that proper utilizations of EBG structures could enhance the performance of low profile antennas.

Study of Different Shape Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) Structures for Single and Dual band Applications

In this paper, single and dual band EBG structures for wider bandwidth are proposed. In each of the discussed EBGs, a metallic patch of regular geometry is chosen for the unit element. The patch is further modified by cutting slots to get extra inductance and capacitance which results into lower cut-off frequency and larger bandwidth. The proposed EBG structures are compared with the standard m...

New derived finite-difference frequency-domain method used for band structure analysis of 2-D EBG structure composed of Drude-type dispersive media

Electromagnetic wave properties in metamaterials including electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures have been widely investigated due to their inherent capabilities for developing novel devices in the fields of optics, microwave and antenna engineering. In reality, most of the materials are dispersive or frequency-dependent, on the other hand, it is important to investigate how the performance...
